Things to Remember When Scheduling an Appointment With a New Dentist

Regular dental appointments can be hard to handle, whether it is for a small toothache or a serious infection. Even if you hate visiting the dentist, a dental appointment is essential for your dental health in the long run.

There are some things you need to remember when you have an appointment with a new dentist:

  • Know Your Purpose

You might visit the dentist for one of two reasons: a regular checkup and cleaning or a certain dental procedure. Whatever the reason, it is always important to know the purpose beforehand.

If you are not sure, it is better to call your dentist and ask for advice. If you are the type of patient who gets nervous, it is always better to know the purpose beforehand and prepare yourself mentally and physically.

  • Prepare in Advance

You have to prepare in advance before visiting the dentist. Make sure you have your dental kit, medical records ready before your appointment. If you're traveling with your kid, make sure you carry something that can keep your child occupied while you wait.

  • Clean Your Mouth

Be considerate and clean your mouth using a mouthwash before visiting your dentist. This can help both you and your dentist.

Aside from using mouthwash, you must also brush and floss your teeth, preferably an hour before your appointment. This helps your dentist to be quick as the cleaning process is already done.

  • Avoid Eating Before the Procedure

Avoid eating anything at least for two hours before the appointment. If you have to eat, steer clear of foods like garlic, onion, fish, etc. Eat something light like crackers or nuts. You can always eat whatever you want after your dental visit.

  • Arrive on Time

When you set an appointment with your dentist, make sure you reach on time. Your dentist will surely have other patients to attend to, so do not make them wait. A slight delay on your part can cause major inconveniences in their schedule. Be early for your appointment by arriving at least 15 minutes before your appointment.

  • Share Your Medical History

Before any dental procedures, share your past medical history and any allergies you might have. Medical history includes everything from all the diagnosis, medication, and a bit of your family medical history.
